I found this very amusing.
From Housekeeping Monthly, 13 May, 1955.
Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed.
Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.
Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.
Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dustcloth over the tables.
During the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet.
Be happy to see him.
Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.
Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.
Don't greet him with complaints and problems.
Don't complain if he's late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work.
Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie him down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
A good wife always knows her place.

I don't think our kids know what an apron is.
The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears...
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.
And when weather was cold grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. In fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men-folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that "old time apron" that served so many purposes
Behind the scenes at Steven and Chris some lucky winners were chosen to win their very own Sugar baby Apron.
Shortbread cookies
This is my Grama's traditional shortbread recipe and no Christmas would be complete without them. There really easy and can be done with cherries or with sprinkles, so they are lots of fun for the kids to get their aprons on and help.

SUGAR BABY VINTAGE APRONS ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH
CANCER ANGELS FOR OCTOBER
Hollywoodʼs most coveted baking accessory has announced a partnership for October
with the organization Cancer Angels. For the month of October, Sugarbaby Aprons will
donate 20% of all proceeds from the Pink and Black Polka Dot Party Girl apron to
Cancer Angels.
Inspired by the 50ʼs homemaker with a vintage twist, this collection of fashionable
smocks has been coveted by Hollywood's hottest moms and daughters including
Jessica Alba and Michelle Williams.
From the inside-out, Sugarbaby showcases a trust zest for life, family, and the kitchen
through their inspiration. The founder, Marla Fortier has an incredibly inspiring story
about how through coping with the loss of a child with cancer, she turned to baking and
Sugarbaby as a sense of regaining her life and showing that you can slowly learn to live
and dream again and fulfill your dreams (which Marla did through Sugarbaby).
Sugarbaby Founder Marla Fortier said, "I am choosing cancer angels because i think
rarely can anyone afford to be sick, let alone work when its happening. I cant think of a
more vulnerable feeling then dealing with sickness and I think Cancer Angels is
providing some security and comfort in what would be the most trying time of anyones
life. I also had a direct experience with losing a
child to cancer and it is a cause very close to my
heart."
About Cancer Angels:
Cancer Angels is the only charity in the nation
that provides funding for the basic necessities of
life to Stage IV cancer patients, such as food,
rent, mortgages, utilities, and fuel. We make
payments directly to the providers, never to the
patients themselves. About 1/3 of our clients are
Stage IV breast cancer victims. We do,however,
help all kinds of cancer patients. We have
determined, through statistics and feedback, that
our help has actually extended the lives of our
patients.
